Mountain View, CA : Lone driver dies in a single-vehicle crash on SR-85 in Redwood City on Sunday morning, May 10, 2015

A solo driver was killed early Sunday morning when the Toyota he was driving north on SR-85 (within the city limits of Mountain View) crashed, according to Art Montiel, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol in Redwood City.

Apparently the driver lost control, veered to the right, flew off the roadway and collided with a large tree. The car went on to smash into a sound wall and finally came to rest upright on the road's right shoulder.

Authorities and emergency personnel from Redwood City were dispatched at 5:12 a.m., but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision, but the police will do a follow-up investigation. The name of the victim will be released upon notification of family.
