Elizabethtown, PA : 7th-grader hit and killed by a vehicle in Lancaster County on Monday afternoon, March 9, 2015

A seventh grader was struck by a car and killed while walking home from school in central Pennsylvania.

Police say an SUV hit 13-year-old David Weiser around 3 p.m. Monday on East High Street in Elizabethtown.

Witnesses say Weiser had been crossing the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mourners placed candles, stuffed animals and other mementos nearby.

The Elizabethtown Area School District says it's providing grief counseling for students, teachers and other staff members.

Police didn't release information on the driver of the SUV.

Elizabethtown is about 18 miles southeast of Harrisburg and 18 miles northwest of Lancaster.
