Police say excessive speed is to blame for a car crash in Palmyra that took the life of a St. Albans man. State police say 51-year-old Earl Hanson died when he lost control of his car, left the road and struck a utility pole at about 2:30 p.m. Monday. Lt. Mark Brooks tells the Morning Sentinel that the car rolled over and Hanson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Brooks says the speed limit in the area is 45 miles per hour but police believe Hanson was driving at a higher speed. There were no other occupants in the car.
