WICHITA, KS : Family mourns loss of two loved ones killed in crash at McConnell on Sunday, 30th December 2018
A family is grieving the loss of two loved ones, after they died Sunday in a fiery crash. It happened at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita Sunday evening at a secondary entrance to the base.
Wednesday KSN talked to them to learn about their loved ones, they say, were taken too soon.
"Way too soon they were just babies," said Jenny Chandler, Wichita.
Jendy Chandler is hurting after losing her son Isaiah Chandler and foster son Matt Pyles. She says she still can't believe it's true.
"He was going to go run with Matt to his friend's house and he was going to be right back," said Chandler.
Chandler says she didn't think they were in trouble until the morning. Narciso Martinez says that's when he went to look for his brothers, but it was later on social media, that they discovered the worst.
"The car matched Matt's car, and then we read it and discovered that it had crashed and caught fire," said Chandler.
Base fire personnel said they found two people dead. McConnell Air Force Base's PIO said the vehicle entered a secondary access point when it crashed.
The family says they've heard rumors, but believe Matt may have suffered a medical condition, after the autopsy revealed something may have happened to his heart before the crash. They say Matt was a Marine and lived with them for sometime.
"We were really close...and he was a good guy, a good Marine," said Narciso Martinez, Wichita.
And Isaiah...the baby brother...who could always make you laugh.
"Funny as can be, yeah silly, God he was silly," said Martinez.
Chandler says the community support has been overwhelming but everyday forward, will be hard.
"I hurt for him because he was so young," said Chandler.
The family tells me they had been with the men all evening before the crash, so they don't think alcohol could have been involved The investigation is ongoing, and McConnell will release more details as they become available.
