Lindon, UT : UHP trooper injured in crash on I-15 in Lindon on Monday morning, March 6, 2017
A Utah Highway Patrol trooper and another driver were both injured in a crash Monday morning on Interstate 15 in Lindon.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the trooper, identified as Devyn Gurney, was struck by an SUV while performing a traffic stop in the emergency lane on southbound I-15 just before 11 a.m. It is unclear whether he was inside or outside his car when he was hit.
Gurney was transported to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV suffered critical but not life-threatening injuries, according to public safety officials.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, Gurney, 27, has worked with the Utah Highway Patrol for three years. He serves in Utah County.
"Our greatest concern everyday is that our troopers will be safe," said Keith D. Squires, commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety, on Twitter. "I'm so grateful that injuries for all involved in this crash weren't worse."
Four lanes of southbound traffic were closed for almost four hours while the crash was investigated and cleaned up. All four lanes re-opened just before 3 p.m.
The closures caused significant delays through northern Utah County.
