JEROME PRAIRIE, OR : Mail truck catches fire after wreck on Monday, 29th August, 2016
A pickup truck being driven aggressively collided Saturday with a United States Postal Service truck, causing the mail truck to catch on fire and sending one person to the hospital.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the 4500 block of Jerome Prairie Road.
Matthew Thomas Hanson, 22, was driving aggressively and tried to pass the mail truck just as it began a left turn, according to Oregon State Police.
The pickup struck the front left corner of the mail truck, then rolled after hitting a ditch. A 20-year-old male in the bed of the pickup was ejected, and he was taken to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center complaining of knee pain.
The mail truck steered into a dirt driveway and caught on fire, but the driver escaped injury. Rural/Metro Fire Department doused the flames.
Hanson was cited for operating outside his permit restrictions, and for careless driving.
