POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA : 1 dead, others injured after crash in Pointe Coupee Parish on Monday, 4th December 2023

One person has died following a crash in Pointe Coupee on Monday evening, Dec. 4.

State police identified the victim as 30-year-old Edine Diez of Nicaragua.

Officials said the two-vehicle crash happened sometime before 6 p.m. on LA 411 (Maringouin Road East) near Calloway Road. A photo from the crash scene shows one of the vehicles mangled and overturned in the roadway.

Investigation revealed Diez was driving a 2007 Jeep Compass headed north on LA 411. At the same time, a 2014 Toyota Corolla was traveling south on LA 411. Officials said for reasons unknown Diez failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and crossed the centerline. The Jeep exited the roadway and re-entered, which then was hit by the Toyota.
