Sheffield, IL : Wyanet man dies in crash on Illinois Route 40 on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016

Bureau County Sheriff James Reed released information on a fatal traffic accident on Illinois Route 40, about a mile north of Interstate 80 near 1800 North Ave.

Daniel R. Nelson, 29, of Wyanet died in the crash.

The Bureau County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash at 1:02 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11. The semi truck vs. pick-up truck incident remains under investigation, however, semi driver, Casey Horner, 40, of Buda was subsequently charged with improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and use of an electronic communication device.

Nelson was the driver of the pick-up truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Bureau County Coroner Janice Wamhoff.

Wamhoff said an autopsy was being performed on Wednesday, Oct. 12, as well as toxicology testing, all standard procedures in a fatal traffic crash.

The investigation continues by the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, Wamhoff and the Illinois State Police accident reconstructionist.
