Richmond, IN : Child injured in school bus crash near Ridge and NW I streets on Tuesday afternoon, April 19, 2016

A child was injured in an accident with a school bus Tuesday afternoon in Richmond.

The Richmond Community School Corporation reports the incident happened near Ridge and NW I streets. The child was not a passenger on the bus, the district said.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to our student and his family," RCS Superintendent Todd Terrill said in a statement posted to Facebook. "We ask the entire Richmond community to send their thoughts/prayers as well."

The students who were on the bus at the time of the crash were safely taken from the scene.

Details of the crash and the extent of the student's injuries were not immediately known. Counselors will be available Wednesday for students or staff member who need them.

State police will investigate the bus on Wednesday.
