Hutchinson, KS : Cattle killed in roundabout wreck on February, Tuesday 6th 2018
Two people were injured and several cattle killed when the load shifted in a semitrailer going through the Marion roundabout Tuesday morning, causing the truck to tip over.
The accident occurred at about 10:40 a.m. at the U.S. 56/ U.S. 150/ U.S. 77 roundabout 3 miles east of Marion.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2009 Kenworth truck pulling a 2004 Wilson trailer loaded with cattle was traveling westbound through the roundabout when the vehicle tipped over, coming to rest on its side.
Injured were the driver, Dale Dalton, 58, of Maysville, Kentucky, and a passenger, John F. Ball, 74, of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, who were both transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion. Dalton was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported and it was unknown if Ball was wearing a seat belt.
A highway patrol dispatcher said the crash killed several cattle, but she did not know how many animals were in the trailer and whether any others were injured. It was also unclear how long the highway was closed while cattle were transferred to another vehicle and the wreckage removed.
