A 29-year-old man died at the scene of a solo-vehicle crash on an Interstate 680 on-ramp in Walnut Creek on Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at 10:09 a.m. at I-680 and the North Main Street on-ramp.
The driver reportedly veered right, for reasons yet to be determined, and struck a guardrail, according to the CHP.
The victim has been identified, but his name has not yet been released pending notification of his next of kin.
A Pittsburg man riding as a passenger survived the crash with major injuries and was transported to a hospital.
The CHP issued a Sig-alert for one blocked lane at 10:36 a.m. but it was canceled less than 30 minutes later.
Just one vehicle was involved in the crash, although at one point CHP officers reported that multiple cars had crashed at the scene. They have since clarified that a separate collision appears to have occurred nearby.
Details about that second crash were not immediately available.
