Columbus, IN : Victim in fatal accident identified on February, Sunday 4th 2018
Columbus police and the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office have identified the victim in a 9:23 p.m. fatal accident Sunday at U.S. 31 near County Road 50N.
Police said a 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by Ashley D. Corbin, 28, Columbus, was traveling south on U.S. 31 when it appeared she lost control of her vehicle and slid into the northbound lanes of U.S. 31, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Corbin’s vehicle collided with a U-Haul truck driven by Phillip B. Amburgey, 27, Columbus, Harris said. Amburgey was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Corbin was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner Charlie DeWeese.
Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting said Corbin died from massive blunt trauma to the upper cervical spine and chest.
