Albuquerque,NM : Woman charged in fatal rollover crash on December, Saturday 23rd 2017
A 22-year-old woman who told deputies she was “blackout drunk” is facing vehicular homicide charges in a Saturday evening crash on Interstate 40 that left another driver dead, according to court documents.
According to Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies, Julianna Montano and her two passengers left the Route 66 Casino and headed east on I-40 in a white Mazda 6. One of Montano’s passengers told deputies that the group encountered a Dodge Durango, which Montano tailgated, passed and then cut off, according to a criminal complaint. At some point, another passenger announced that the Durango “was flipping,” but Montano continued driving, deputies say.
Patricia Urban, who was driving the Durango, was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies did not provide any other identifying information about Urban.
Witnesses said the Mazda caused the crash, and deputies found white paint on the Durango’s front and rear bumpers, according to the complaint.
Montano told deputies that she was “black out drunk” and didn’t remember leaving the casino, according to court documents. She also said another person was driving the car. Deputies said she smelled of alcohol and “had extreme difficulty maintaining her balance.”
