Chesterfield Township, MI : 34-year-old man killed in two-vehicle head-on collision crash Friday December 18 2015

A 34-year-old Chesterfield Township man was killed Friday morning in a head-on collision on a two-lane road in the township, according to police.
Michael Beers was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred about 7:10 a.m. on Chesterfield Road just south of 24 Mile Road, Chesterfield Township police said.
An 18-year-old male was driving a 2010 Chrysler minivan north on Chesterfield when his vehicle crossed the center line and crashed into the 2000 Jeep driven in the oncoming lane by Beers, according to the preliminary investigation, police said.
The men were pinned inside their vehicles and extricated by township fire personnel. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The 18-year-old driver was taken to McLaren Macomb hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The crash closed down Chesterfield Road for several hours, affecting arrival traffic at Carkenord Elementary School on 24 Mile Road, said Detective Sgt. Deron Myers.
Michigan State Police assisted in responding to the scene.
Myers said investigators are perplexed about why the young man’s vehicle crossed the center line.
We don’t have an explanation why he went into the other lane,” he said. “It’s strange. Both of them are local and have probably traveled that route many time.”
He said there are no signs of alcohol or drug use but said the younger man’s blood was drawn for testing.
We will have to research to determine whether he was on the phone,” he said.
Beers was driving to work while the younger man driven a family member to work and was returning home.
