Elyria,OH : Elyria man severely injured in rollover crash on January, Thursday 4th 2018

An Elyria man was transported by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland after he was involved in a Jan. 4 rollover crash, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Steven Souris, 24, was traveling north on state Route 83 in Eaton Township at a high rate of speed at 8:10 a.m., according to Highway Patrol Sgt. Pablo Cruz.

Souris, who was driving a gray 2009 Volkswagen, veered off the road and went airborne for a short time after hitting a driveway culvert and rolled a few times on Cooley Road, south of Lorain Road in Eaton Township, Cruz said.

The Volkswagen ended up on its wheels, he said.

Souris, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered incapacitating injuries and had to be removed from the vehicle by Eaton Township fire, Cruz said.

Cruz said Souris was driving significantly faster than he should have been, especially with the current road conditions.

The vehicle also had old tires that lacked a proper amount of traction, according to Cruz.

Souris was flown to Metro with severe but non life-threatening injuries, he said.

“This is a reminder to everyone,” Cruz said. “Be sure to plan ahead and take your time when you drive somewhere.”

The crash is still under investigation. No alcohol or drugs were involved.
