New Haven, IN : Fatal traffic crash involving a motorcyclist and a semi on early Thursday morning September 18th 2014
Fort Wayne Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash involving a motorcyclist and a semi early this morning on Jefferson Boulevard at Ewing Street. That fatality comes a little more than 12 hours after a man, who might have had a medical problem, was pronounced dead after crashing his car in New Haven.
Fort Wayne Police received a report of the Jefferson crash at 6:49 a.m. Both the motorycle and semi were eastbound on Jefferson when the semi tried to turn north on Ewing and hit the motorcycle, according to police spokesman Officer Chris Felton. The motorcyclist was the only one on the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorycle lay crumpled about 50 yards east of Ewing in the north lane of Jefferson. The Allen County coroner was called to the scene, police dispatch said.
Police placed markers near debris and around the intersection as they investigated. The motorcyclist’s name is expected to be released by the coroner’s office after an autopsy.
The crash shut down traffic on Jefferson from Fairfield Avenue to Harrison Street and on Ewing from Washington Boulevard to Brackenridge Street. Police directed traffic on Jefferson south on Fairfield to detour around the accident scene. Traffic also was backed up on other downtown streets as drivers tried to get around the congestion.
Meanwhile, a man died in the 2800 block of Adams Center Road in New Haven after his vehicle left the road and hit a utility pole Wednesday.
New Haven Police provided these details about the accident reported at 5:29 p.m.:
When emergency workers arrived, they found the vehicle in a cornfield near a utility pole that had been snapped off. Witnesses were giving CPR to the man, who still was in the car. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Several witnesses reported that the vehicle had been traveling south on Adams Center when it crossed the center line, hit the utility pole and went into the cornfield. The driver may have experienced a medical problem before the accident, police said. Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
Adams Center was closed to traffic between Indiana 930 and Moeller Road while Indiana Michigan Power repaired the utility pole.
