Minneiska, MN : One dead in head-on crash on U.S. Highway 61 south of Kellogg on Thursday, October 13, 2016
A Winona man was killed this morning in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 61
near Minneiska, about eight miles south of Kellogg.
Travis M. Jacobson, 27, was reportedly driving north in the southbound lane when his van collided with a school bus, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Both vehicles caught on fire after the impact and were destroyed; Jacobson died at the scene.
The bus driver, Vernon Andrews, 59, of Ellsworth, Wis., was taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus, where he was listed in serious condition this afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The crash was reported at 5:50 a.m., closing the highway for about four and a half hours for investigation, reconstruction and clean up.
Wabasha County Sheriff and Wabasha Police Department personnel also responded to the scene.
