Jackson County, MS : 14-year-old boy injured after crashing mother's SUV into a tree on Jim Ramsey Road early Monday morning, Oct 19, 2015

A Jackson County teen is fighting for his life in a Mobile, AL, hospital after crashing his mother’s SUV into a tree early Monday morning.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said the 14-year-old took his mother’s 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer without permission.

Ezell said deputies responded to a reported explosion on Jim Ramsey Road around 1:20 a.m. That’s where deputies found the SUV had crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

Ezell said the impact ejected the teen and the seat he was belted into. The teen was flown to USA Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.

Ezell said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
