KEWANEE, IL : Kewanee woman dies in three-vehicle accident on Saturday, March 18th 2017
A Kewanee woman died in a three-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon on Route 78 south of Kewanee.
Lucille Kemerling, 86, a passenger in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
According to sheriff's department reports, at 12:50 p.m. Saturday deputies responded to the accident on Route 78 at Flex Court.
A Chevrolet driven by Bradly Simmons, 31, of Kewanee was southbound and waiting for oncoming traffic before turning into Flex Court.
A Ford Escape driven by Destiny Gibson, 18, of Toulon was also southbound, failed to stop and hit the left rear of Simmons's vehicle, which overturned onto its top and landed in the northbound lane.
A Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by Monroe Kemerling, 86, of Kewanee, in which Lucille Kemerling was a passenger, was northbound and when Mr. Kemerling swerved to avoid Gibson's car he went into a ditch and hit a culvert. The van rolled several times before coming to rest on its top.
Mr. Kemerling was transported to OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee. He was treated and released.
Simmons was ticketed for no insurance. Gibson was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Two passengers in the Gibson vehicle were not injured.
