Erie, PA : Two men seriously injured in Route 99 head-on crash on Thursday, 15th March 2018
The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a head-on crash in McKean Township that seriously injured two men late Thursday morning.
The crash was reported in the 8200 block of Route 99, south of Reichert Road and north of McKean, on Thursday at about 11:20 a.m. The crash involved a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu that was traveling north on Route 99 and a 2005 Chevrolet Impala that was traveling south, according to investigators.
The cars collided along a straight stretch of the roadway, and both vehicles came to rest off the east side of the road. The engine from one of the cars involved in the crash was knocked out of the car and traveled across Route 99 before coming to rest in a wooded area off the west side of the roadway.
One of the male drivers was ejected from his car. The other male driver was entrapped in his car and had to be freed by firefighters who responded to the scene, according to police.
Investigators identified the driver of the Impala as 54-year-old Mark R. O’Connor, of McKean; and the driver of the Malibu as John P. Widner, no age available, of Edinboro. Both men were transported by ambulance to UPMC Hamot with what police said were suspected serious injuries.
There were no passengers in the cars, according to police.
Route 99 was closed at Reichert Road while emergency crews remained at the scene.
