A positive identification of the victim in Tuesday night's fatal, single-vehicle wreck has not been made yet and likely won't be released for the "next couple of days," according to a spokeswoman for the Albemarle County police.Albemarle County police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday evening on Richmond Road.
A Honda Odyssey was traveling westbound “at a high rate of speed” on Richmond Road, or U.S. 250, at 7:30 p.m. when it went off the road and hit two trees, according to county police. The driver was ejected from the minivan and pronounced dead on the scene.
Witnesses tell police they saw the van going at least 80 mph. The posted speed in that area is 45 mph.
Richmond Road is closed between Keswick and Hacktown Roads. The county police’s accident reconstruction scene was still investigating the scene and working to identify the driver at press time. Road closures were expected to continue until midnight.
