Madison, IN : One dead, six hurt in alcohol-related crash on U.S. 421 north of the Ohio River town of Madison on Saturday, October 4, 2014

A man with a blood alcohol level more than five times the legal limit drove his car into the path of a pickup truck on a southeastern Indiana highway, triggering a crash that left one person dead and six others injured, including four children, State Police said Sunday. The crash on U.S. 421 north of the Ohio River town of Madison killed a 21-year-old man from Arkansas City, Kansas, Sgt. Noel Houze said in a news release. The man's name was being withheld pending notification of relatives. The man was riding in a car driven by Jordan Griffin, 23, of Versailles, that went left of center about 4 p.m. Saturday and into the path of a pickup driven by Charles McRoberts Jr., 37, also of Versailles, and carrying the four children, Houze said. Griffin suffered minor lacerations and bruising and McRoberts suffered head injuries, Houze said. Griffin had a blood alcohol level of 0.41 percent, Houze said. The legal limit is 0.08 percent. The crash is still under investigation, and there was no immediate word on any criminal charges. Houze could not be reached regarding further details Sunday. However, Griffin's father, Greg Griffin of Versailles, told The Associated Press he was looking for an attorney for his son. Jordan Griffin remained hospitalized Sunday, his father said. McRoberts and his four passengers — 2-year-old Pacy McRoberts and 11-year-olds Bailey McRoberts, Tyler Smith and Hogan Jackson — were transported to Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. The three 11-year-olds were later airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, Houze said. Their conditions were not immediately known.
