A man was killed when he crashed into a building Monday morning.
The crash happened at the corner of Chelsea Avenue and Carpenter Street after 2 a.m.
Family members identified the victim as Patrick Turner, 39.
"I just heard a big boom," Johnny Suttle said. "Then I come out and see all these police cars and everything. It was really horrific."
Family members said Turner was driving to see a friend in Whitehaven when he crashed. Witnesses told family they saw a car run him off the road, causing him to crash into the building.
Suttle lives around the corner from where the crash happened.
"I saw police," Suttle said. "Street taped off…it was horrific."
The crash caused the building to catch fire. Diane Garrett has owned the building for more than a decade. She was in the middle of plans to open a new restaurant, but without insurance, those plans are now on hold.
"I'm afraid to go inside," Garrett said.
The building was vacant at the time of the crash.
