Hubbard, OR : One person dies in three-structure home fire in Hubbard Tuesday morning, January 3, 2017

Seven agencies converged at the scene of a three-alarm home fire in Hubbard Tuesday morning that officials said left at least one person dead and a deputy injured.

Three structures, located in the 18000 block of Fobert Road Northeast, burned for several hours Tuesday morning. Neighbors told KATU News a family of four lives in the home.
“We just got to know one another last year, and we just did some wood projects with wood that had been falling down from the storm,” said Newton, who lives nearby. “The husband was an engineer at Intel. Very nice guy. The wife, I think, was a homemaker. She may have worked, but they have two children.”
The fire started around 3 a.m., and neighbors who saw the flames called 911. Crews managed to salvage the garage, but the home and shed were a total loss. Responders included crews from Monitor Rural Fire, Hubbard Fire, Woodburn Fire, Aurora Fire, Marion County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon State Police.
A sheriff's office spokesperson confirmed the fire as "suspicious," and officials moved our crews at the scene back behind police tape. It's unclear if the tape marked a crime scene.
Paramedics treated and released the injured deputy for smoke inhalation at the scene, per officials.
Authorities did not immediately release the identity of the person confirmed dead in the fire. The medical examiner will have to wait to assess the situation, as firefighters said the building where the body was located was not stable.
“Their initial efforts were hampered because of a live power line and obviously the lack of water. There are no fire hydrants here,” said Lt. Chris Baldridge with the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
The cause of the fire remained unknown early Tuesday, pending an investigation. Due to several lingering, smoldering hot spots, exploring the home in totality likely wouldn't happen until later into Tuesday night at the earliest, a source told KATU News.
