Fresno, CA : Man died after a loaded school bus collided with his pickup truck at McKinley and Hayes avenues on Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2016
A Fresno man died Tuesday afternoon after a pickup collided with a loaded Central Unified School District bus, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The collision occurred at 2:45 p.m. at McKinley and Hayes avenues.
The bus was carrying 48 Central High West students and was east on McKinley when the Buick pickup, which was heading north on Hayes, pulled out from a stop sign and was broadsided by the bus.
The person who died, a Fresno man, was in the pickup. There were no serious injuries on the bus, and students with minor injuries were treated at the scene, CHP spokesman Axel Reyes said. Some parents picked up their children at the scene, while other students boarded another bus to either go home or back to the high school, where parents could pick them up, Reyes said.
However, Central Unified spokeswoman Sonja Dosti said one student was transported by ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center after complaining of neck pain.
The identity of the man who died was not immediately disclosed.
The intersection will be closed for several more hours.
