Finksburg, MD : Taneytown man dies, another injured after a single-vehicle crash on Md. 140 in Carroll County on Monday night, December 7, 2015

A Taneytown man died and another was taken to the hospital after a single-vehicle crash Monday night near Finksburg.

At about 10 p.m. Monday, Christopher Dante Thomas, 23, of Taneytown, was driving a 2008 Infiniti G35 east on Md. 140 at high speeds and passing vehicles in both lanes when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a powerline pole, according to a news release from the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack.

Thomas was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Holt Andrew Panek, 20, of Taneytown, was a passenger in the car and was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries and was discharged.

The State Highway Administration and the Carroll County Sheriff's Office closed the roadway for about three hours as a state police accident reconstructionist investigated.
