ELKTON, MD : Man killed in single-vehicle crash in the 400 block of Williams Road, south of Elkton on Thursday, 31st January 2019
A Cecil County man was killed early Thursday morning when the car he was driving ran off an Elkton-area road and crashed into a tree — ejecting him from the vehicle, which then burst into flames, according to the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators identified Harry William Ellis IV, 20, of Elkton, as the victim. Ellis was pronounced dead at the crash in the 400 block of Williams Road, south of Elkton, reported Lt. Michael Holmes, a CCSO spokesman.
Police said Ellis was driving a 2014 BMW in the southbound lane of Hutton Road at about 2:15 a.m., when he lost control of his car after going through the Williams Road intersection. His car veered off the road and traveled approximately 50 yards into a field, before crashing into a tree, police added.
Ellis was ejected from the car on impact and then the vehicle caught fire, according to Holmes, who further reported that, as of Thursday afternoon, investigators had not determined if he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
