ROCKDALE, TX : A 23-year-old Cameron man died early in a one-car accident on Sunday, June 18, 2017
A 23-year-old Cameron man died early Sunday morning in a one-car accident about a mile south of Rockdale, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
Cirilo Castillo, 23, was the driver of a 2010 Ford Mustang going north on U.S. Highway 77. At about 1:50 a.m., the Mustang drifted off the east side of the road, struck a culvert, rolled onto the driver’s side and landed upside down, officials said.
Castillo, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Milam County Justice of the Peace Sam Berry.
The passenger in the car, 21-year-old Jorge Martinez, also of Cameron, was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan, where he was in stable condition. Martinez was not wearing a seatbelt, the DPS official said.
The Mustang was negotiating a curve in the road when Castillo lost control.
The officer handling the accident was DPS Trooper Michael McHale.
