Camp Springs, MD : Driver ran from fatal car crash in Camp Springs on Friday, September 19, 2014
Maryland State Police said a driver ran from a fiery crash in Camp Springs on Friday that killed one passenger and left another in critical condition.
Police said authorities found the driver, Craig S. Howard Jr., of Waldorf, near the collision on the off-ramp of southbound Route 5 to Allentown Road at 2:56 a.m.
Howard was driving a 2007 Dodge Charger when it hit a light support pole along the roadway, also known as Branch Avenue, police said. Authorities say a passenger, Ashley Dominique Harley of Clinton, was ejected from the vehicle and killed.
A second passenger, whom authorities did not identify, was trapped inside the burning vehicle and critically injured. Firefighters rescued the passenger, who was transported to a hospital, said a spokesman for the Prince George’s County Fire Department.
Authorities said the driver was also injured in the collision, but his condition was not available.
Police said speed was a factor in the crash and that the investigation is ongoing.
The off-ramp did not reopen until hours after, about 8 a.m. Friday, police said.
