Maryville, TN : Walland man dies after passing out, wrecking vehicle on Sevierville Road Tuesday afternoon, March 7, 2017

A Walland man died after suffering an unspecified medical episode and wrecking his car while driving on Sevierville Road Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Blount County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that John A. LaFollette, 74, of Whitney Rae Circle, Walland, died of natural causes, not from the accident itself.

According to BCSO reports, LaFollette was traveling south on Sevierville Road at Delozier Lane at 3:03 p.m. Tuesday when he suddenly requested that his passenger, 62-year-old Linda Larry, of Whitney Rae Circle, Walland, take over the steering wheel. LaFollette then passed out.

The vehicle veered off the right side of the road into a ditch and struck a tree head-on. Lafollette was transported via Rural/Metro to Blount Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead sometime thereafter.

Larry was unhurt in the incident.
