Indianapolis, IN : 14-year-old dies day after crash on 465 on city's east side Saturday afternoon, April 1, 2017
Two people were injured and one has now died after a crash on Interstate 465 on the east side Saturday afternoon. Indiana State Police on Sunday confirmed that 14-year-old Rosie Amis of Indianapolis passed away Sunday afternoon from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver, Stanton Bowie, Junior , of the car she was riding in remains in fair condition at Eskenazi Hospital.
Police tell Eyewitness News that Bowie and Amis were in a northbound car that started veering across lanes and was struck broadside by a minivan just north of I-70.
Police say Louise Traficanti, 43, of Illinois was driving the Honda Odyssey van in the left lane when the Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 28-year-old Stanton M. Bowie, Junior of Fishers, pulled into the path of the van. The van struck the sedan in the passenger side door where Rosie M. Amis, 14, of Indianapolis, was sitting.
Troopers say both Bowie and Amis were unconscious when they arrived and Amis did not have a pulse.
A State Trooper and two nurses that came upon the crash performed CPR on Amis until medics arrived and took Amis to Methodist Hospital in critical condition where she died on Sunday.
Neither Traficanti nor her three passengers were hurt.
Police found evidence in the Cobalt to suggest alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Bowie has not been arrested but will be tested for DUI.
