Citra, FL : Monucle S. Evans, 28, man dies in high-speed crash in Citra early Thursday morning, June 9, 2016
A single-vehicle crash on a rural road claimed the life of a Reddick man early Thursday morning.
Monucle S. Evans, 28, was killed, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. He was the only person in the car.
The crash was so violent that FHP troopers said the engine and transmission of the 2015 Chrysler 200 were ripped from it and the center of the dashboard was resting against the driver's window.
The mangled vehicle was resting against a huge tree on the side of the 1700 block of Northwest 165th Street in Citra. Marion County Fire Rescue officials pronounced the driver dead at 4:02 a.m.
Troopers said Evans was headed home. The car was westbound on the two-lane road when he lost control and the car ran off the road. The driver overcorrected, and the vehicle rotated counterclockwise and slammed into the tree.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt, and speed was a factor in the accident, troopers said.
At this point last year, there were 37 traffic-related deaths for the year in Marion County. So far this year, 36 have died on local roads.
In all of last year, there were 80 highway deaths in the county.
