Honolulu, HI : Pedestrian accident at the intersection of Kalihi Street and Likelike Highway on Tuesday, 17th March, 2020

An 80-year-old pedestrian was killed after being struck by a sedan in Kalihi early today.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Kalihi Street and Likelike Highway just before 5:20 a.m.

Lt. James Slayter of the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division said the pedestrian was seen crossing Kalihi Street in a marked crosswalk, however, the red “don’t walk” signal was illuminated.

A maroon 2004 Saturn operated by a 24-year-old man was traveling south in the far right lane of the highway and struck the pedestrian.

Emergency Medical Services responded and pronounced the 80-year-old man dead at the scene. Positive identification is pending.

The Saturn driver did not sustain any injuries.

Neither speed, drugs nor alcohol were factors in the collision.
