SALT LAKE CITY, UT : Drunken man crashes into house and woman asleep in bed on Tuesday, 29th September, 2020
A Blanding man was arrested Tuesday after police say he crashed into a house while driving drunk, knocking a bed and the homeowner who was sleeping in it more than 3 feet, according to police.
Tyrell Evanston Yanito, 22, was booked into the San Juan County Jail for investigation of DUI causing serious injury, failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving injury, two counts of assault on a police officer, failing to report an accident, interfering with an arrest and failing to stay in a lane.
Early Tuesday, Yanito was driving on 500 South in Blanding when his truck left the road near 100 East and went into a house on the corner, according to a police affidavit.
“As the truck impacted the house, it struck a bedroom with such force that it moved the bed in which ... the homeowner was sleeping. The bed was directly in line with the impact and was knocked approximately 39 inches away from the wall, with (the woman) in it, breaking the headboard of the bed, which struck” the homeowner in the head, the affidavit states.
The woman was “confused and staggering around” and “repeating questions and looking for her glasses that she was already wearing,” police stated in the affidavit. She was treated at a local hospital for a concussion.
Yanito walked away from the crash scene but was detained by another person who witnessed the accident.
