Staten Island,NY : 15-year-old suffered head injury in Hylan Boulevard crash on may, Friday 19th 2017

A 15-year-old boy suffered head trauma when he was struck by a car while crossing Hylan Boulevard in Midland Beach during the Friday morning rush hour, according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

The teen underwent surgery at Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze and was listed in critical condition, police sources told the Advance.

The preliminary investigation by the NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad indicated that the teen was crossing Hylan from east to west outside the crosswalk in front of Signature Bank at Hylan and Hunter Avenue at 6:59 a.m., according to a police official.

The victim ran out into the street and was struck by a car that was traveling north on Hylan, police said. An S79 bus stop was located across the street, although authorities did not know what bus he was intending to take.

His condition turned out to be more serious than originally thought by first responders who classified his injuries as minor.
