HONOLULU, HI : Driver in triple-fatal pedestrian crash has had previous run-ins with law on Monday, 28th January 2019
The 27-year-old driver who fatally struck three pedestrians in Kakaako on Monday night has had several run-ins with the law and was on probation.
Alins Sumang has had three previous convictions, including for terroristic threatening.
Police say he appears to have been speeding and driving under the influence when he crashed into a group of pedestrians in a traffic island at Ala Moana Boulevard and Kamakee Street about 6:20 p.m. Monday.
At a news conference Tuesday, Police Chief Susan Ballard said Sumang remains at the hospital, where he was taken in serious condition, and is under arrest. He faces three counts of manslaughter and other charges.
