Chicago, IL : 24 hurt in Gage Park head-on, bus-SUV crash on April 28th 2014

Twenty-four people were injured when a CTA bus and an SUV were involved in a head-on crash Monday morning in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

A northbound No. 49 bus collided with a southbound SUV shortly before 10 a.m. at South Western Avenue and West 50th Street. Witnesses said the driver of the SUV crossed the yellow line into oncoming traffic and may have been attempting to make a U-turn. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
The woman driving the SUV was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, and two children in the SUV were in stable condition at Stroger.

Twenty-one people on the bus were hurt in the crash. Of them, nine people refused treatment, six were taken to area hospitals in good condition, and six were in stable condition.

As of noon on Monday, Western Avenue had reopened between 50th and 51st.
