SPARTANBURG, SC : A motorcyclist was injured after a chase on Sunday, July 30, 2017
Spartanburg, South Carolina
A motorcyclist was injured after a chase with Highway Patrol troopers ended in a collision on Sunday.
Spartanburg County deputies say the collision occurred Sunday shortly before 5 p.m. on Turpin Road and Blue Ridge Street.
Troopers had attempted to stop the vehicle after running the tags and discovering that the driver was a habitual offender. Troopers say the driver had on a helmet so they were not sure if he was the owner of the motorcycle.
Once the troopers activated the stop, the motorcycle accelerated in an attempt to evade the trooper, the incident report says. The chase began down Bishop Road to Meadow Road, then to Edwards Road and crossed over Compton Bridge Road onto Turpin Road. As the driver attempted to take a curve near Turpin Road at a high rate of speed, he ran off the right side of the road, through a field and struck a tree, the incident report continues.
The trooper rendered aid to the driver until EMS arrived and transported him to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
The driver was identified as 28-year-old Jacob Benjamin McCracken.
