Mansfield, OH: Two injured in crash after their truck rear-ended a semi-trailer along I-71 on Monday, August 3rd 2015

A father and a son were transported for medical treatment after their truck rear-ended a semi-trailer Monday afternoon.The father, Paul Whitley, 40, of Frankfort, Ohio was transported by ambulance to OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital and the son, Tyler Whitley, was flown by medical helicopter to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio Highway Patrol Mansfield Post commander Lt. Matthew Them said.Paul Whitley, who was driving the Manufacturing Transport truck was in and out of consciousness at the scene, Them said. He remained in fair condition Monday evening.Tyler Whitley's condition was not available Monday evening.The two were traveling on Interstate 71 south around 3:25 p.m. Monday when they rear ended a semi trailer that had just merged onto the highway from Ohio 13 and was trying to accelerate to the posted 70-mile-per-hour speed limit, Them said. The crash occurred under the Orchard Park Road overpass.“It appears the vehicle that rear ended the other commercial vehicle is at fault,” Them said. The crash is still under investigation.
