Bucks County, PA: Woman killed, 5 injured in Lower Makefield accident on Sunday, August 2nd 2015
One woman was killed and five other people were injured in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Lower Makefield shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, a police officer at the scene confirmed.According to the officer, the woman who was killed had just turned 20 on June 29. She and the others in a silver SUV were on their way back from attending the “American Idol” auditions held at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, the officer said, adding that the woman still had the Idol ticket as well as her birth certificate in her pocket.Three people were ejected from the vehicle and a fire official described some of the others’ injuries as serious.The victims — all described as young adults from New Jersey — were transported to hospitals in Bucks County and Trenton.Traffic along I-95 was restricted to one lane in each direction as crews cleared the scene.Witnesses said the SUV was “flying” at a high rate of speed when it flipped and rolled over, said the police officer. He added that at least several of the victims were not wearing seat belts.Firefighters from Yardley Makefield Fire Co. were the primary first-responders while crews from Parkland, Penndel, Langhorne-Middletown and William Penn fire companies assisted.The cause of the crash is being investigated by Pennsylvania State Police.
