VICTORVILLE, CA : Fiery Palmdale Road crash leaves 1 dead on Thursday, 20th September 2018

Authorities said a woman died when her car exploded in flames after slamming into a traffic signal pole late night.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials said they’re still investigating the circumstances of the crash, which occurred at the intersection of Palmdale and El Evado roads at 11:44 p.m.

Officials said the woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was headed east on Palmdale Road in a 2003 Lexus when she somehow lost control and hit a traffic signal.

“Upon impact, the vehicle caught fire, and the driver was found unconscious and unresponsive inside,” authorities said.

Witnesses removed the driver from the vehicle just before emergency personnel arrived. The woman suffered major injuries, authorities said, and was taken to a local hospital but was subsequently pronounced dead.

A section of Palmdale Road and adjacent roads were closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
