A bicyclist was killed and a moped rider was critically injured Tuesday in separate crashes, according to Metro Police.
The bicyclist was riding east on Flamingo Road about 6:10 p.m. when he attempted to make a left turn or U-turn at Euclid Street, police said. A van headed in the opposite direction struck the cyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The cyclist’s name was not released, pending identification, police said. The driver of the van, a 62-year-old Las Vegas man, immediately stopped and showed no signs of impairment, police said.
In the other crash, which happened about 3:10 p.m., a 29-year-old Las Vegas man was riding a moped south on Cliff Shadows Parkway, north of Buckskin Avenue, when a car hit him from behind, police said.
The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken by air ambulance to University Medical Center with critical injuries, police said.
The driver of the car, a 39-year-old Las Vegas woman, stayed at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment, police said.
Both crashes remain under investigation, police said.
