JACKSONVILLE, FL : 1 critically injured in New Town crash involving motorcycle2 HRSA crash involving a car and a motorcycle in the New Town area at Beaver and Rushing streets on Monday, 17th June 2019

A motorcyclist was critically injured Monday morning in a crash with an SUV in the New Town area, police said.

The crash was reported about 7:30 a.m. at Beaver and Rushing streets. Police said the man driving the motorcycle suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he was in critical condition at last check.

Police said the motorcyclist, whose name has not been released, did not appear to be wearing a helmet.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Chad Moody said the crash is a reminder to all drivers and riders the importance of being safe on the road, and to always protect yourself.

“Clearly, any bit of protection you can have is important," Moody said. "It’s hard to say what injuries may have been prevented, but it certainly would have helped.”Investigators are working to determine who was at fault in the crash. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation.
