Quincy, IL : Two John Wood Community College students died in a car crash on 48th street north of campus on Wednesday night, Sep 30, 2015
Adams County Coroner Jim Keller has released the names of the two John Wood Community College students killed in a car crash Wednesday night on 48th street north of campus.
Edrick Rivera, 20, of Brooklyn, New York was identified as the driver.
Rivera was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:55 p.m. Wednesday night.
Rilleyson Ignacio, 20, of Curacao was a passenger in the car.
Ignacio was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m. at the Blessing Hospital Emergency Room.
Quincy Police Sgt. Randy Wheeler tells KHQA the call came in to dispatch just after 9 p.m.
Wednesday night at the intersection of Covington Lane and 48th Street.
48th Street was blocked off until early Thursday morning, from just north of JWCC to State Street.
Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Officers (CRO's) from Champaign, Illinois were on scene at 1:15 a.m.
Thursday morning to re-create the scene of the accident. The team left just after 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
QPD Sgt. Randy Wheeler confirms six people were involved in the two-car crash.
Four people, including Rivera and Ignacio, were in a white Subaru Impreza headed southbound on 48th street when they collided with a black Cadillac CTS driven by two minors.
The collision left the Subaru overturned on a nearby hill.
Sgt. Wheeler tells KHQA the two minors received only minor injuries.
The two other passengers in Rivera's vehicle were taken to Blessing Hospital. Their names and conditions have not been released.
Eyewitnesses on scene tell KHQA speed was a factor in the accident.
"This is the most horrific crash I have seen in my 15 years with the Quincy Police Department," Sgt. Wheeler said.
Wheeler said he's not sure when the results from the CRO's investigation will come back.
According to the JWCC Men's Baseball schedule on the school's website, the team is set to play SECC in West, Burlington, Ia. Friday. They will play at home Saturday.
Keller says an autopsy will be performed on the victims.
KHQA is scheduled to meet with JWCC President, Mike Elbe and JWCC's Athletic Director Brad Hoyt Thursday morning.
