Deltona, FL : Timbercrest Elementary School teacher was airlifted to a nearby hospital after being pinned between two cars on Tuesday afternoon October 7th 2014
A Timbercrest Elementary School teacher was airlifted to a nearby hospital after being pinned between two cars Tuesday afternoon, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
The first-grade teacher was pinned between two cars around 2:05 p.m. Tuesday in the parents' pickup loop at the school.
Sheriff's Office officials identified the teacher as 39-year-old Wendy Scorpio.
"An 18-year-old driver, Edgar Martinez, was in line in the parent pickup loop when his vehicle lurched forward, striking the vehicle in front of him and pinning Scorpio in between the two vehicles," said Sheriff's Office spokesman Gary Davidson in a statement.
Sheriff's Office officials said the incident appeared accidental, but they are investigating what caused Martinez' vehicle to lunge forward.
Officials said the teacher was taken to the Halifax Medical Center with serious abdominal and arm injuries.
