Memphis ,TN : on person struck and killed after hit and run crash while crossing I - 40 on Wednesday night ,may 13th 2015

A man was hit and killed while trying to walk across four lanes of traffic on I-40 on Wednesday night.

The man had stopped his car alongside the eastbound lanes of I-40 near Appling Road. He then got out of the car and began walking across I-40 toward a Shelby County sheriff's deputy who was conducting a traffic stop.

The man was hit by a car, then run over by at least one other car. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators have not said why the man got out of his car nor have they revealed his identity.
