Dover, DE : A Harrington man has died two days after he was severely injured in a single vehicle crash on Saturday, June 24, 2017
A Harrington man has died two days after he was severely injured in a single vehicle crash in Kent County.
Delaware State Police Master Cpl. Jeffrey R. Hale said Cody Hopkins, 24, died Tuesday, June 20, at Christiana Hospital.
The crash took place at about 11:24 p.m. Sunday, June 18 while Hopkins was driving his 2006 Dodge Ram on Canterbury Road, just south of Blue Jay Lane. Troopers with the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit have determined that as Hopkins tried to negotiate a curve in the roadway, the pickup’s tires went off the side of the road. The truck then went back onto the road, began skidding and hit a group of trees.
Hopkins, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the truck and onto the roadway.
He first was taken to Bayhealth Hospital - Milford Campus and later transferred to Christiana Hospital in critical condition. He died Tuesday, June 20.
Speed and alcohol use appear to be factors in this crash which remains under investigation, Hale said.
