Walnut Creek, CA : One person died in I-880 crash on Saturday night, August 13, 2016
One person died late Saturday night when a car spun out and crashed into a freeway center divider, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on southbound Interstate 880 near the Interstate 238 interchange, and authorities pronounced the person dead at the scene, CHP Officer Ron Simmons said. The initial crash involved only one vehicle, but the CHP was investigating to see whether any others were involved because at least four cars were stopped in the aftermath, he said.
The CHP shut down four lanes of the freeway to investigate and clear debris, and they issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic. They opened up all lanes of the freeway around 4:30 a.m., and traffic was flowing normally through the area Sunday morning.
The gender, age and identity of the person were not available Sunday. Check back for updates.
