Authorities have identified the 56-year-old man killed Friday in a head-on collision in West Contra Costa County.

Cedric Byron Harris, a Pinole resident, died in the crash on San Pablo Dam Road near Castro Ranch Road, a Contra Costa County coroner's official said.

At 5:21 p.m. Friday, Harris was driving a 2003 Cadillac west about 45 mph when the car veered into the eastbound lane, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

It collided head-on with a Mitsubishi that had four occupants, Officer John Fransen said.

The driver of the Mitsubishi and her three passengers had minor to moderate injuries and were treated at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, Fransen said.

San Pablo Dam Road was closed for nearly four hours Friday night, causing major traffic delays. The road reopened at 9 p.m.

The crash is under investigation, Fransen said.
