Clearwater, FL : Motorcyclist seriously injured in crash with van on North Belcher Road in Clearwater on Tuesday morning, March 29, 2016

A motor scooter operator was critically injured Tuesday morning in a collision with a SUV in Clearwater, police said.

David Patterson, 26, of Clearwater, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

The crash occurred just before 7 a.m. on North Belcher Road, just north of Drew Street, police said.

According to police, Patterson was northbound when the scooter hit the sport utility vehicle, driven by Jillane Vos, 48, of Clearwater, as she tried to exit a store parking lot and turn south.

Patterson was not wearing a helmet, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
